HOMEWORK HOTLINE 375-0135
My homework hotline extension is #533
I assign homework on a weekly basis so that students will have the flexibility of self scheduling and so they will learn to schedule their time effectively.
Innate ability isn't the only variable that determines cognitive competence. Reading has cascading effects on the mind, and its benefits are available to everyone. For this reason I emphasize reading in class and I require students to read outside of the classroom. Reading is a major portion of student grades in my classes. See the reference below for references.
What Reading Does for the Mind*
By Anne E. Cunningham and Keith E. Stanovich
My homework assignment does not change. EVERY week I require my students to read for two hours and to report that reading to me by means of a note signed by an adult. For their reading homework, I permit students to read anything that their parents consider acceptable. I provide a form to report reading time which may be used for convenience; however, the reading may be reported in any kind of written form. Reading slips are due each Friday . A reading log is available for printout READING LOG.

Most weeks, students will also have a spelling assignment. The number of pages in the spelling lesson can vary, but most of them are two pages long. Spelling assignments are due each Thursday .
We have been studying the novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry . The students have created a website which we hope you will enjoy.
